Face the music

Face the Music

Scripture

“Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.”
— Lamentations 3:40 (NIV)

Devotional Thought

The  Fir tree stands tall year-round, enduring cold winds and harsh seasons, not because it avoids the elements — but because it’s deeply rooted. It doesn't run. It stands.

For many of us, we’ve lived running — not away from people, but toward them, toward their problems, constantly helping, fixing, supporting. At first glance, it looks noble. It feels holy. But in the quiet, we know the truth: we’ve used their emergencies to avoid our own.

Like a tree trying to nourish others but forgetting its own roots, we’ve stretched ourselves too thin. And now… the wall. The end of the rope. The moment of decision.

It’s time to stop.
It’s time to face the music.
It’s time to tend to your own soul.

This is not selfishness — it’s stewardship. God never asked us to save everyone. He asked us to be faithful, and part of faithfulness is letting others carry their own burdens while we take responsibility for ours.

Like the Fir, we are called to be rooted — not running. Still — not scattered. Alive — not just surviving.

Reflection Points

  1. What have you been running from under the disguise of helping others?
Take time to identify the fears, issues, or wounds you haven’t faced.

  2. Where in your life do you need to stop, surrender, and “face the music”?
Is there a conversation, a truth, or a decision you’ve been avoiding?

  3. What might happen if you tend to your own heart with the same energy you use to help others?
How could healing start if you gave yourself permission to face your reality?

Prayer

Father,
I’ve spent so much of my life running toward other people’s problems, trying to be strong, trying to be needed — and maybe even trying to avoid what You’ve been gently asking me to face.

I surrender today. I stop. I choose to “face the music,” not with fear, but with faith. Help me to stand like the Polish Fir — deeply rooted, steady, and still alive in the storm.

Give me courage to face the hard truths and grace to know I don’t face them alone. Thank You for meeting me on this side of the wall and promising that the other side holds freedom and peace.

In Jesus’ Name  Amen
